The Hilton hotel chain was established by Conrad Hilton in 1919, and now has a multitude of brands including Hilton Hotels and Resorts, DoubleTree by Hilton, Waldorf Astoria Hotels and Resorts, and Tru by Hilton. The Addis Ababa Hilton is in the city centre near the ECA Convention Centre. The spacious reception area is surrounded by gift shops, florists, jewellery stores and boutiques, and has a cocktail bar and patisserie.
The 220 en-suite rooms are made up of delux rooms, garden view rooms, park view rooms, executive rooms, suites, presidential suites, and apartments. All rooms have balcony, aircon, desk, Wifi, satellite TV, minibar, coffee maker, clock radio and telephones in bedroom and bathroom. Suites have, in addition, kitchenette and seating area with sofa. The Gazebo Bar and Restaurant serves snacks and has live entertainment every Sunday; Il Forno is an Italian trattoria; Kaffa House is a specialised Ethiopian restaurant; and the lobby bar has international favourites. For guests with disabilities, there are wheelchair accessible rooms, lifts and meeting rooms, braille lift, strobe and visual alarms, and plenty of ramps.
The business centre is fully equipped, and can host conferencing and multi-day events; the 7 meeting rooms can accommodate up to 900 pax. The spa has treatments, sauna, whirlpool and steam room. The fitness room has equipment and classes. There’s also a swimming pool, salon, barbershop, squash courts, floodlit tennis courts, basketball court, putting green and 18-hole mini golf course. Services include foreign currency exchange, room service, shoeshine stand, tour desk and airline desk. Playground, children’s activities and babysitting services are on offer. The Hilton was voted Ethiopia’s Leading Hotel in the 2016 World Travel Awards.
