On the eastern banks of the Omo River, Lale’s Camp is the only safari-style tented camp in Ethiopia. The camp was named for Lale Biwa, one of the founders of the camp, who is from the Omo Valley.
The camp is taken on an exclusive basis and has up to 7 en-suite tents that can be double or twin. The tents are elegantly furnished with 4-poster beds, wooden chests, huge vases and bedside tables with soft-lit lamps. Each tent is adorned with linen drapes, woven rugs and traditional fabrics. Their verandas have safari chairs and wooden tables. The spacious dining tent has safari-style furniture, wicker embellishments and hanging lanterns. The chef serves hearty breakfasts, picnics and 3-course dinners.
The camp serves as a base for the Omo Valley, home to some of Ethiopia’s most remote tribes who live according to traditions that have changed little for centuries. Visitors can visit the tribal villages, shop at the tribal markets and, if they’re lucky, participate in a festival such as a bull jumping or body painting. This camp can be used together with the Mursi Fly Camp to create a truly immersive Omo Valley experience. The camp is closed during the rains of April and May.
