I’m an entrepreneur, travel consultant and personal tour guide dedicated to helping you to realise your life-time dream of traveling to Africa and to be transformed by travelling! I’m a born-and-raised German girl with nothing more than a dream of making a positive impact in life. I received my education at the University of Education Weingarten. After graduation, I was offered a challenge to travel to Kenya on a voluntary mission. And that’s where my life took a different route and my philanthropic spirit was ignited. I left my job, settled in Kenya and started Jiamini CBO to extend a hand of hope to the less fortunate orphans of Kenya.

Travelling to Africa changed my life completely. I’ve always asked myself whether I was meant to live in Africa. The desire and curiosity to explore other African countries grew every day. I wanted to travel and see the world with different eyes, without having plans or an idea what I was going to do. I was afraid, but at the same time excited, because I’d decided to do something I’d never done before. Traveling to Kenya as a young lady by myself scared me a bit. One of my biggest fears was whether I would be safe as a female solo traveler alone in Nairobi. What really scared me was my broken English and being lonely. What could I do alone at the other end of the world? How would I move around? Where would I stay? Where would I go if something happened to me? How would I contact my family?

How many times did I wish for someone who could guide me, who could answer all my questions and just keep me calm. Or someone who would pick me up at the airport and give me a safe feeling, welcoming me to Kenya? When I landed in Nairobi the first time I had a culture shock! I just felt like crying. My first time in Kenya, I almost freaked out. The traffic, the bumpy and dusty roads, the situation in my guesthouse, the local food.

After being in Kenya for 24 hours, I just wanted to go back home! The moment I met my host mother, the situation changed! By simply being there for me, taking me around, organising a sim card for my phone. With her I really felt at home. She helped me connect with Mother Africa and see the beauty of Kenya. What touched my heart in Kenya was the positive mindset and strong faith of the street children. I couldn’t believe they could be this happy and optimistic and at the same time they didn’t know what to eat or where to spend the night! Can you imagine travelling every day, experiencing more about Kenya and about yourself day by day, discovering new places and meeting new inspiring people - living a much happier and healthier life?

After five years of travelling solo in Kenya, living within a Maasai family, in the Umoja women’s village, volunteering in a slum, taking courses in meditation, mindfulness and hypnotherapy, I founded Travel With Sinja to help individuals to transform their lives through traveling. I want to share my world with you so you can experience the same I do.
