A Great Lodge In The Northern Region

On a promontory of Lake Tana, Tim and Kim Lodge is a lovely little hideaway. The cottages are dotted around attractive gardens sloping down to the lake.

The 10 cottages are made up of 7 en-suite stone rondavals and 3 mud houses. All cottages have thatched roofs, and are made up of doubles, twins and triples. All have mosquito net, shower with water heater, and stone veranda with views of the lake. The round restaurant has a seating area, dining area, bookshelf with plenty of books, and friendly dogs. The menu has a selection of salads, sandwiches, soups and quiches; in the evening there’s often a BBQ of meats or fish from the lake. The bar has a good selection of local and imported drinks and cocktails.

The gardens are filled with fruit trees including guava, mango and avocado. The rocks at the bottom of the garden are good for jumping off and swimming from. Activities include boat trips to the island monasteries, swimming in the lake and kayaking. Bird watching is excellent: over 300 species have been recorded in Lake Tana Biosphere Reserve, including 17 endemic species. The lodge is eco-friendly, uses solar power, filters water and grows its own fruit and vegetables.
