The Dubai-based Constellation Hospitality Group is a developer and manager of luxury hotels and resorts across Africa. The Avanti Blue Nile Hotel, Constellation Hospitality Group’s first Avanti in East Africa, opened in 2012. The hotel is located on the shores of Lake Tana, source of the Blue Nile, and has lovely views across the lake.

There are 135 en-suite rooms, many of which have views of the lake. All rooms are equipped with satellite TV and Wifi. Both Azur Restaurant and 360 Restaurant overlook the lake, and serve a selection of Ethiopian and international dishes. The Atrium bar has a menu of local and imported beers, wines and spirits, and its walls are adorned with art. O’Bar is a comfortable place in which to relax. The ballroom can be used for meetings, conferences and events, and has a lovely view of the lake.

Activities include visiting the monasteries on the far shores of the lake, known for their beautifully painted mazdas; visiting the Blue Nile Falls; boat trips on the lake; and bird watching. There are 37 islands on Lake Tana, 20 of which are home to churches and monasteries; Debre Damo Monastery, on an island only accessible to men, can be reached by a daunting climb up a sheer rock face.
