About Doho Lodge, Awash National Park

Surrounded by a doum palm forest, Doho Lodge looks across the savannah towards Fantale Mountain, a strato-volcano with a large summit caldera. The area is particularly known for the natural hot springs, which are believed to have healing waters.

The lodge has 20 traditional tukuls, all en-suite. The restaurant serves Ethiopian dishes and a few international dishes, and the bar has a selection of local drinks. Bathing in the hot springs near the resort is said to be therapeutic, and to have such powers as stimulation of the immune system, curing skin problems, lowering blood pressure, relieving muscle pain, reducing stress, promoting sleep and anti-aging, to name but a few.

Awash National Park is in one of the most geologically active regions of the world, where volcanoes and shifting rifts between plates have been occurring for about 40 million years. Activities include trekking, camping, game drives, camel riding, boat rides, fishing, bird watching, and visiting the local Afar villages. The highlights of the park are the 400 species of birds found here, and lesser-known animal species such as Soemmerring’s gazelle, lesser kudu, beisa oryx, Anubis baboon and cheetah. Sister lodge, Awash Falls Lodge, is perched on an escarpment overlooking the gorge, on the other side of the national park.
