About YaYa Africa Athletics Village, Addis Ababa

Haile Gebrselassie is arguably the best runner Ethiopia has ever produced – and that’s quite a feat! With two Olympic gold medals, four World Championship titles and too many marathon wins to count, Haile has broken national and international records time and time again. Now President of Ethiopian Athletics, the champion is focusing on promoting his country through his collection of luxury resorts.

Established in 2010 as a place where athletes can train, Yaya Africa Athletics Village is 2,700m above sea level, an ideal altitude for marathon runners and sports people to train. 10km from Addis, the hotel is also easily accessible from the capital city. While the hotel was intended for professional athletes, it also welcomes interested tourists and travellers.

The 40 en-suite rooms are equipped with the necessary amenities. The cottage restaurant and bar serve Ethiopian cuisine, and pizzas, pasta, burgers and soups. The hotel also has a meeting and conference centre, and banking services.

As might be expected, the running track is of international standard. There are also Olympic playing fields, including football, handball, volleyball, and a swimming pool. Coaches are on site for professional training. The gym has state-of-the-art equipment, and the spa offers sports massage therapy. Other activities include horse riding, and visits to the Sululta Plain, Gulele Botanical Garden and Mt Entoto.
