About Awash Falls Lodge, Awash National Park

Awash National Park is in one of the most geologically active regions of the world, where volcanoes and shifting rifts between plates have been occurring for about 40 million years. Towering over the national park is Fantale Mountain, a strato-volcano with a large summit caldera.

Awash Falls Lodge is perched on a cliff overlooking the lovely gorge and waterfall. The 27 en-suite rooms include doubles, twins, triples and family suites. All the rooms are traditionally built of wood and stone, with thatched roofs. They are decorated with local fabrics, have mosquito netting over the windows and notices with useful information about the area and its wildlife. There’s also a campsite with shared bathrooms. The lodge supports the conservation of the national park and provides employment for the local people.

The open-sided dining area has spectacular views of the waterfall, as do several rustic seating areas along the edge of the gorge. The restaurant serves basic Ethiopian and international dishes. The bar serves gin, vodka, ouzo and beer. The conference room, on the ground floor beneath the restaurant, can seat 70. The souvenir shop, next to the car park, has a selection of local curios.

Activities include trekking, camping, game drives, camel riding, boat rides, bird watching, visiting the Awash hot springs, and visiting the local Kereyu villages. Sister lodge, Doho Lodge, is near the hot springs across the national park.
